How To Install Lightroom Presets On Desktop and Mobile | 2019 Updated
Desktop Installation: Step-By-Step Instructions for Lightroom Desktop Presets
Step 1 - Download the Presets
First, download the CTC Presets Collection to your computer. You can access the download link instantly after you purchase the Creative Travel Couples Presets Collection. If you made an account during checkout, you can also download the files from the My Account page at anytime. If you forgot to create an account during checkout and you already closed out of the instant download page, don't worry! We sent you an email with the link. If you still have problems downloading the files, please use the support page to contact us.
Step 2 - Open Lightroom
Next, open your preferred version of Lightroom and at the top left of your desktop go to "Lightroom" and then click on "Preferences." This will open up a dialog box.
Step 3 - Locate The Presets Folder
Click on the "Presets" tab at the top of the dialog box. Make sure the "Store Presets with this catalog" box is not checked.
The next steps will vary slightly depending on what version of Lightroom you currently have.
- If you have Lightroom Classic version 8.0 or higher, you should see two boxes: one that says "Show Lightroom Develop Presets" and one that says "Show All Other Lightroom Presets." Click on the box that says "Show All Other Lightroom Presets."
- If you have an earlier version of Lightroom Classic (7.0 - 8.0), then you might see only one box that says "Show Lightroom Preset Folder." Click on that one box.
- If you don't have the current version of Lightroom Classic and instead have an older version (Lightroom 5 - 7), then you'll also see a "Show Lightroom Preset Folder" and should click on that one.
Next, choose the "Lightroom" folder and then the "Develop Presets" folder.
Step 4 - Import the Presets
Locate the preset files that you've downloaded to your computer and drag and drop only the CTC Desktop Collection folder into the "Develop Presets" folder. Once this is complete, you need to close down/reset Lightroom and open it back up.
If you're using the current version of Lightroom Classic CC then you should see a pop-up that says "Updating Develop Presets to XMP." You might need to wait a minute for this to show. If you don't see it after a while, close Lightroom once more and open it again. Once the files are done converting to XMP format, you can start using your new presets!
Step 5 - Edit Your Photos!
To the left of your Lightroom application, you'll see a folder called "CTC Desktop Collection" which will contain all 30 presets. To use them, simply click on a preset and make small adjustments to your Temperature, Tint and Exposure!
Mobile Installation: Step-By-Step Instructions for Lightroom Desktop Preset Installation
To install the presets on your mobile device, there are two ways you can go about doing it. Both methods are explained in detail below. Method 1 is the quickest and easiest, but seems to cause the most problems. We suggest trying method 1 first and if it doesn't work then using method 2.
Method 1: Sync presets from desktop to mobile
Step 1 - Download the Presets To Your Desktop Computer
Just like we talked about in the Desktop Installation section, you'll want to download the CTC Presets Collection to your computer. If you haven't done so yet, you can find the download link instantly after you purchase the Creative Travel Couples Preset Collection. If you made an account during checkout, you can also download the files from the My Account page at anytime. If you forgot to create an account during checkout and you already closed out of the instant download page, don't worry because we sent you an email with the link! If you still have problems downloading the files, please use the support page to contact us.
Step 2 - Open Adobe Lightroom CC (not the classic version)
You'll need to open the new version of Adobe Lightroom CC. Don't be confused - this is NOT the Adobe Lightroom Classic version. This is the new Adobe cloud-based version of Lightroom. If you haven't downloaded the App yet, then you should do that now.
Step 3 - Locate The Presets Folder
At the top right of your screen, click on the "Edit" tab. Once the tab opens, click on the "Presets" section at the bottom of the module. Click the three dots "•••" next to the Preset's text and the choose "Import Presets." Locate the presets and choose the CTC Desktop Collection folder. The presets should import and you should now see the CTC Desktop Collection folder with the 30 available presets for use.
You can also import the presets by navigating to the Adobe File Menu at the top left of your desktop and clicking on "File" and then "Import Profile and Presets" and choosing the CTC Desktop Collection. Either way works.
Step 4 - Sync With Mobile
If you're only using this version of Lightroom to upload presets to your phone, we suggest making sure your photo cache size is set to 0%. That way the apps don't slow down your phone or computer. Go to the Edit menu (Windows) / Lightroom menu (Mac) and then click on "Preferences." Next go to "Local Storage" and make sure the "Use photo cache size to % of your remaining disk space" is set to 0%.
Now turn on file syncing and let Lightroom finish syncing. This might take a while and you can check if it's done by clicking on the "Cloud" icon to see if it's still spinning. When it's finished, you should be able to hover over the cloud and it will read "Synced and Backed Up." Once it's finished, you can close/quit the application since you wont be using it anymore.
Step 5 - Open Lightroom CC Mobile
Download Lightroom CC from the App Store if you haven't yet. Make sure your app is up-to-date. Open the app and allow it to sync. To make sure your app is syncing, click on the cloud icon at the top right of the App. If it says "Resume Syncing" or "Uploading Paused" then click the play button to resume syncing. If you see that it says "Pause Syncing" or "Uploading" then you don't need to change anything. You'll now just need to wait for the syncing to be done.
To see if your phone has finished syncing, click on the cloud icon. It should read "Synced and Backed Up." When you see this you can continue on to step 6.
Step 6 - Edit Your Photos!
Now that your phone has finished syncing, import a photo you'd like to edit! Scroll to the right until you see the "Presets" tab. Click that tab and then click the dropdown name that you see. Yours might say something different, but ours says "Color." This should open up a section that shows you all your presets.
You'll now see the Creative Travel Couples Desktop Collection at the bottom of your screen! Simply click on the collection and choose the preset you'd like to apply to your photo.
Method 2: Download the presets straight to mobile
Step 1 - Download the Presets To Your Phone
You'll want to save the CTC Presets Collection directly to your phone. There are a few different ways you can do this. Please note, you can NOT download the files if you are in the Instagram App. You must exit out and use a web browser.
Technique one is to download the files straight to your phone. First, you'll need to make sure you can unzip files on your phone. Android phones come equipped with this feature. However, if you have an iPhone, you'll need to download an application that will let you unzip the files. We suggest using the free app Unzip but you can search the App Store for others if you'd like. Go ahead and download the Unzip app.
Once the app is installed, download the presets to your phone. You can find the download link instantly after purchase (if you purchased on your phone) or you can download the files from the My Account page if you created an account during checkout. Remember, you need to be using a web browser. If you purchased the presets within the Instagram App, you won't be able to properly download the files until you switch to a web browser. You can also find the email that was sent to you with the download link. No matter which method you choose, click download.
Next, click "More" and scroll to the right until you see "Copy to Unzip." Choose that. Tap the orange CTC-Preset-Collection file and it should duplicate to a yellow folder. That's the folder that will contain all your presets!
Technique two is to AirDrop the 30 photos from your desktop computer to your iPhone. Download the presets to your desktop and highlight all 30 photos. Next, AirDrop them to your iPhone. The photos might show up blank, but don't worry. They are still there.
Once you have the files downloaded and unzipped, you're ready to proceed to the next step.
Step 2 - Open The Adobe Lightroom CC Mobile App
Open the mobile Adobe Lightroom CC App. Start by creating an album to store the presets. Click the "+" icon and choose to create a new "Album." Name it whatever you'd like (we suggest CTC Presets) and click save.
Step 3 - Import The Presets
Go into the Album you just created and press the add folder button. Then choose "Add from Files" and locate the files you saved and unzipped on your phone.
If you don't see the "Unzip" folder, you might not be in the correct location. Choose the "Locations" back button at the top left of your screen and the choose "On My iPhone." You should now be able to see the Unzip folder. Click that folder and continue navigating until you reach the mobile presets (Unzip -> CTC-Preset-Collection -> CTC-Preset-Collection -> CTC-Mobile-Collection).
Add all the files into the album. You can use the Select -> Select All -> Open path. You might need to wait a few moments for the photos to load and eventually you should now see 30 photos with the preset names across the front. Remember to make sure you added the "CTC Mobile Collection" and not the "CTC Desktop Collection" files.
** If you used the Airdrop method and instead have the 30 photos saved straight to your phone. Instead of choosing "Add from Files" you should choose "Add From All Photos" and then import all 30 DNG photo files.
Step 4 - Save The Presets
Click on the first preset "Adrift" and then at the top right choose the 3 dots. Click "Create Preset" a name the preset the exact name you see as the photo's title (Adrift). Make sure "Profile, Light, Color, Effects, and Detail" are selected and then click the checkmark at the top right corner.
Unfortunately, you'll need to repeat these steps for all 30 photos. This is why we suggest first trying to use Method 1 to sync the presets from your desktop to mobile. However, if you'd still like to use this method then go ahead and create the 29 other presets before continuing to the next step.
Step 5 - Edit Your Photos!
Now that your presets have been saved and imported into Lightroom mobile, it's time for you to edit a photo! Add the photo you'd like to edit and then scroll to the right until you see the "Presets" tab. Click that tab and then click the dropdown name that you see. Your's might say something different, but mine says "Color." This should open up a section that shows you all the current Lightroom presets. Choose the "User Presets" tab and if done correctly, you should now see the Creative Travel Couples Presets Collection! Simply click on the preset you'd like to apply to your photo and then select the check at the bottom right corner when done! Now you can make slight changes to the photos until it's perfect.
